Reminds me of Asimov's "The Caves of Steel" where humans have been living indoors for so long they have become agoraphobic and can't go outside.

Re: Half of Britain thinks the countryside is "boring"
I am totally disgusted by this report, as an english man our countryside for me is the best place on earth with green fields long rolling hill wide expanses of forest, moorland and high mountains ,these people obviously have never taken the time to step out there and experience it.
its a sad fact of life that its true a lot of kids (in England)have never seen a sheep or a cow or even know where milk and cheese comes from.
Do you blame parents, schools or ignorance.
Get out there and enjoy, experience and take something from the countryside.

I live in the countryside! its an amazing place but id much rather go out there than go clubbing. my friends used to think the same but since they all hit university... well... the uni lifestyle didn't stop me appreciating the quieter life.
