Mr Frank Buckles, the last known surviving soldier from the First World War, has now died at the age of 110. R.I.P.

I came online to post about Frank myself. Glad you brought it to the forums attention.

An era is now officially over. Let's not forget their sacrifices and history after the war.

And a reminder that hundreds of WWII and Korean Veterans pass away every day.

Remember them, cherish their memory, remember what they did.

Heaven awaits them, they have served their time in hell. God Bless them and hold all our veterans in peace.

Mr. Buckles. 110.....all I can say is wow....not only for his service in what is arguably the most brutal conflicts in human history but everything else he must have experienced over his lifetime. This man saw everything from the first model T's rolling off the assembly line to Neil Armstrong landing on the moon to the invention of the internet....just wow.
He's actually not the last survivor by the way. There's a 109-year-old guy from Austrailia and 110 year old woman from Britian who served and are still kicking.

Correct, he was the last American WWI Veteran.

The Australian (technically British - he emigrated to Australia after the war) is Claude Choules - a navy man.

Who the woman is I don't know - yesterday was the first I'd heard of her. I certainly don't recall any woman being mentioned when they started collecting all the veterans (Patch, Allingham, Stone etc) a few years back.

I also seem to recall reading that America's last WW1 veteran had been granted the right to be buried in Arlington Cemetary.

Update -

Claude Choules died today. Born in 1901, joined the Royal Navy in 1917, winessed the surrender of the German fleet in 1918. The very last combat veteran of WWI.

There remains Florence Green - also born in 1901 - who served with the WRAF.
