Anybody who fails to report their kid missing for a month is due to hang in my book if for no other reason. Did she do it? Absolutely. Did they prove it? Apparently not well enough. Sad thing is that we'll hear about this infamous whacko again someday and it won't be for winning mother of the year.

Several persons who have commented on this thread have nailed it: Casey Anthony was a lousy mother, but the state could not prove she killed Caylee. They couldn't even show how Caylee died. How can you convict someone of murder when you can't even say how the alleged victim died?

They should have gone for a lesser charge, such as endangerment. Juries are actually far more likely to convict on lesser charges than they are on greater ones. This is why cases involving capital crimes must be air tight.

I agree with the idea of making it a crime for a parent or guardian to know his or her child is missing and not report it to the authorities. All the good mothers (and fathers, too) I know would become almost hysterical if their kids turned up missing. They'd want to have EVERYONE involved in the search.

The sad thing is, Casey could now admit she killed Caylee and there's nothing anyone could do to her. At the same time, she's already told so many lies, how could anyone be sure she was telling the truth?

Perhaps the Feds might want to go after her for violating Caylee's civil rights. It's a long shot, but it might work.

Reasonable doubt in that case is like the glove didn't fit. NO mother would know he child is missing and NOT report it right there on the spot. I don't have any kids of my own yet, but I do watch my niece every now and then and one day she was hiding in the closet and I called 911 cause neither me nor my Lab could find her. I called 911 right after I called my sister and my mom, in that order. and they were here before the cops were. I think she did it cause she wanted to party instead of being a mother, God has a special place in hell for people that kill children

I live in Orlando. It's definitely a circus of outrage going on. Understandable outrage. Last I heard she has now officially gone into hiding and has cut all ties with her family (or vice versa?)

American media has a REALLY bad habit of trying and convicting people in a court of NBC long before they're ever tried in a court of law. Our Journalists have absolutely no integrity and will do/say/imply anything that will start the biggest riot and net them the best ratings.

Actually...in the last few years?

I'm beginning to wonder if the U.S.A. actually has real news any more. If it does, I can't figure out how to tell all the non-news from all the real news.

You know, all the stuff written to support a certain political opinion, and all the stuff that doesn't pass a fact-check by somebody else after it's been put out, and all the life-impacting facts we have been told about Very Important People such as Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears.

At least I'm pretty sure that this story actually happened. Not only did it happen but it is important enough to have left us with an issue to solve.

Guilty or innocent of murder, I really don't know, but Caylee's Law ought to be passed.

I can predict news before it happens through a simple formula I call "Today's News":

1. There will be some.
2. It will be bad.

This explains why I pay little heed to most of what I read in the news ... when I bother to read it at all.

I don't know about this at all so all my info is from the Wikipedia page on it. But why should someone found innocent be so despised?

I remember a juror who was interviewed after the trial say something to the effect that they said that she was "not guilty". They did not say that she was "innocent".

The prosecution over-charged her. There was apparently enough info to get her on lesser charge, but they wanted her for murder one and/or another manslaughter charge (1st degree I think).

The way she acted, I feel that she had some major mental disorder; Psychotic maybe or some other disorder where her grasp of reality is highly questionable.

My humble opinion.
