Jobs I respect. His company, however, makes products that are only for people who are easily brainwashed or have too much money imho. There is nothing Apple has made that another company hasn't done way cheaper and in some cases better.

Xerox was really the biggest loser in all of this.

I always tell my students about inventions of Xerox.

By the way, not just simple GUI - they experimented with touch screen, too! And they had the reason. They had to design complicated computer-controlled machines, but the people who were supposed to run those machines weren't computer guys willing to type long command lines with multiple parameters.

The next step was to realize that all that stuff was suitable not only for "non-computer guys running complicated machines" but for housewives, too

I have a deep respect for Steve Jobs. He was one of those who changed our world.

(But, to be honest, anything from Apple is too expensive in our part of the world. Those are luxury items, mostly for "rich bitches". Great designs, no doubt...)

Well, you are speaking to someone here who began with FORTRAN IV on punch cards. To me even Windows 3.0 looked like cheating. I worked for IBM during the big Windows/OS2 wars where the smallest computer that got respect was an AS/400 and Apple was regarded as a toy maker. Nothing about that feeling changed for years and then my wife came home with an iPhone 3.

I was an easy convert after that. Now I will have to be buried with my iPhone and my daughter has an iPad, an iTouch, I've got an iPod, and the Apple world is beginning to make some iSense to me. I'm not going to be using a Mac anytime soon but I don't make fun of people who do any longer. I think what is most telling is the way the industry is moving more toward what Apple is doing than away from it. There is where Mr. Jobs has made his mark.

Or you wanna do something simple and all you need is a little bitty tool that if you owned a PC...you could download online for free.

But you got a Mac, so you go to the Mac store...hoo-boy, out comes the wallet, if they got it at all!

I'm not sure if it's the fault of the Mac, though, or only majority rule.
