LCS Follies Again

Postby kham » Tue Jun 11, 2013 8:37 pm

The LCS Full Court Press is on, I guess ...
From CDR Sal......

I figure, it will take some unforseen event, like maybe , COMBAT , where one of these pieces of shit gets melted, along with its entire crew for the brain trust to come to jesus. And even then, taking them out back and shooting them in the head with full-load magnums from a 686 might be needed. You CANNOT be this fucking stupid, when you are dealing with, y'know, REALITY

Fantasyland horseshit is fine for other venues. This aint one of them. The reason us dumbass critics, us OLD SCHOOL ancients get so worked up about it, is because, there is a fucking LIVE CREW on board. These crapfests are not drones. And having something with less firepower than an Elco PT boat made of aluminum is not a brilliant move in the modern combat arena.

But but but.....speed!!! fast!!!!......eleeventy!!1!1!
Any wagers as to the flags supporting this shit will get anything but a fat paycheck from a contractor or as a talking head "expert"? What they fucking need is a firing squad.

Did I read that right? These babies cost $500 million each? Who's brilliant idea was this? I wonder who's making money off of this. I've found that, with almost any dumb thing done by the government, ESPECIALLY the armed forces, someone is making a lot of money from it. Like Deep Throat told Woodward and Bernstein, "Follow the money."

I've noticed the Pentagon likes to spend money on fancy toys they can show to the public as examples of how they're defending the nation. That keeps a lot of defense contractors and their employees happy. I'm not sure what it does for our troops.

It's this sort of thinking that leads to billions being spent on fancy weapons systems that don't work while our troops on the ground don't have adequate body armor or armor for their vehicles.

I still find it appalling that the Pentagon under former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld turned down the urgent requests from the Marines in Iraq for MRAPs, the perfect vehicle for countering IEDs. IEDs killed and injured more Americans in Iraq than any other weapon. To his credit, when he came in as Defense Secretary, Bob Gates made it a priority to get MRAPs to Iraq. One wonders how many lives were lost because the requests for MRAPs were initially turned down.

I get the impression America's troops do a fine job in spite of the top brass at the Pentagon, not because of them.

You did

The entire LCS concept is a fucking fiasco from end to end. I not kidding when I said these scumbags only merit execution by firing squad. You just look at it, and what sort of a complete retard has a "ship" built not only in separate yards -- an idea which normally would be fine --- but since they could not agree on the design, and dare risk offending political assholes, they field TWO, TWO fucking disperate designs. In wartime, someone should die. DIE. The fucking thing hasn't even validated firing its main gun, a devastating 57mm piece -- guess why? The shock is such that it can blast the whole fucking mount off the hull. These assclowns were only concerned with speed, speed, SPEED!!!!!! This , of course requires a massively lightweight structure. Now, consider: how exactly will 40 knots save your ass from a 900 knot cruise missile? But noooo, we are all too STUPID, and BACKWARD, to embrace these uber-cool revolutionary concepts.

Here's the thing: advances in naval technology are evolutionary, not revolutionary. This has been proven going back over 150 years, in spite of what some assholes try and tell you. It is nearly at the point I am glad I will be dead and not see the USN get ass raped in the next major war, with them more concerned with idiocy such as this, and "diversity" and "global force for good"
The mission of a navy is to control the seas and kill the fucking enemy
Period
Sorry if that crushes some tiny minds, but welcome to fucking reality

Pretty sad when the Canadians get it before we do. :P
My bet is these things will never see combat. Just another hole we'll pour money down until whoever's baby it is isn't up for reelection anymore. It's sad when a naval vessel has less firepower then a main battle tank LOL........don't get too close to shore with your fancy yacht or you'll get raped by an Abrahams.

Come on, after all the talk in the other thread about The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors, I think you're forgetting about the American sailors' bravery in the face of overwhelming odds and capacity for heroic self-sacrifice of their lives and their inferior, paper-armored ships.

Besides, one of the designs is a trimaran. A frickin' trimaran, man! How cool is that?

That only happens if you have weapons on board. That can actually hurt the enemy. Dying in a cloud of molten aluminum vapour from a antiship missile hit that you never saw coming, or even had a chance to shoot down isn't heroic. Unless the role is now "meat shield" for something, god alone knows what.

I'd take a DE's armament , a pair of 5-inch guns and a triple torpedo launcher would be a massive amount of firepower compared to what it has - and hasnt - got now

Dont give the RCN too much credit, they have their own issues right now for new supply ships, ably assisted by the retardation of law.

But the 57mm was the Russians' go-to gun for punching small holes in tanks and knocking off their tracks into the early '50s.

Beyond weapons I believe the big issue right now is getting underway without having to call Mr. Goodwrench a couple times every attempt at deployment.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Bingo

It a real drag when the engines crap out in mid-Pacific.

This , from the DOTE Report in January is somewhat amusing - or terrifying - or a mixture of both. I suppose you could snark that its generally a mistake to let the powerpoint priestesses run wild designing a ship combined with an airplane company, but that would be mean. Screw them, suck it up. You built the fucking thing, now wear it like a hat, geniuses

Eagle 1 weighs in with some simple observations. He always was more dignified than us wild -eyed types from the grunt end of an operation
