Full article here , short as it is, at gCaptain. Not a lot of information, but a few bits can be determined. The nav bridge and deck immediately below are seperated from the rest of the ship. Close up shots show a clean break along the weld lines, which to me suggests that waterflow caused the structure to shear off in one piece. The stern shot shows major damage to the stern, with the plating around the name seriously deformed and ruptured. The sidescan sonar shot seems to indicate the impact crater caused was just a straight down splat, with minimal skidding or other motion.

That's certainly what they want you to believe, and spent a lot of money on shows making sure thats what everyone says. But like the guys who reviewed the Titanic site said, steel has no ego. It just responds to physics. And physics doesn't get asshurt when you punch their bullshit in the throat. The problem with the common propaganda theory on the Fitz, is all the ore scattered over the wreck site. If she plunged to the bottom and executed some sort of ballerina flip somehow managing to break in half while doing this, why then is the plating at the tear twisted and torn in several directions? Like it was torn apart gradually. And why is the site carpeted with taconite ore pellets? What with that gravity thing and all, how did that happen? Unless of course, part of it floated a bit and spilled out its cargo before foundering. Physics is such a perky thing. Especially for corporate people and underwriters

So she broke up on the surface then? Hmmm... I know one theory floating about (pardon the pun) is the Fitz was shoaled south of Michipicoten Island, and water entered the hold that way... (not sure if I buy the water coming through the hatch covers... I doubt the crew would have left them that loose) ... so by the end of her journey she was already waterlogged. The underwater pictures do show her bridge smashed in, likely by wave action.... but again, I'm relying on outdated data.

They know more about the Titanic. They have better imagery of the Titanic. Every time you want to bring up a suggestion to mount an expedition to the Fitz, you get "oh, think of the families!" A high definition sonar and camera survey wouldnt harm a damn thing, and is not invasive in the slightest. But it would show the actual damage in a very high degree of clarity. If you start asking the why, then you get into the condition of the vessel. Who inspects and certifies it seaworthy every year? USCG. Who is in charge of the boat?
