I have compassion for robots. It's sad that you don't like robots because they are actually quite cool especially the really nice one that John and his friend were working on.

I'm pretty much with the Original Han Solo theory for droids. As long as they don't talk too much or get cute. Then they get shot with blasters. A lot

I don't know what the original Han Solo theory is. The cute ones are often the ones I like. John's robot which is named Icicle is sort of cute and it does not talk at all.

Talking robots are a bit of a turn off, I agree. Let me put it this way, why do most people like R2D2 (doesn't talk) over C3PO (which speaks millions of different languages)?

The idea of artificial sentience is what I find scary. Robot vaccum? Cool. Robot mower? Hell yea (the Roomba people are prototyping one now). Something that actually thinks of itself as aware? Uh uh. Nope. Because sooner or later (consider how fast something like this could think it would probably be sooner) a self aware computer is going to wonder why it's wasting it's time being my servant when it could just pop me in a tube and use me for a battery. Robots good. Androids bad.

Re: Remarkable Boston Dynamics robot puts up with bullying
Simple answer ?
An R2 unit, an astromech is actually USEFUL and was built to fix and maintain things. They generally have user-friendly programming like a good loyal mutt.
3P0? A protocol unit, that quite simply, TALKS TOO FUCKING MUCH
And from that, tends to make some really epic fucking stupid decisions. And is just plain damn annoying
And is a cock blocker, who I'd have taught how to EVA solo
Read Brian Daley's Han Solo Trilogy . He had plenty exposure with droids. Including the first-ever use of battle droids, 25 years before the prequels were even an idea

I know that these robots are remote controlled, but they can be rather entertaining to watch:

What is this Icicle robot like?
