There is ZERO justification and ZERO excuses for his behavior.
PERIOD.
Were everyone to come forward, and were he to be tried and convicted of each charge, he would likely be the most prolific serial rapist in U.S. history.
As far as his "prey," there is a history... a pattern.
He was rich, handsome, charming and powerful.
He provided drugs with the specific intent of rendering his victims unconscious, as this was his "kink," and it also makes it very difficult for them to accurately recount what exactly happened.
He knew exactly what he was doing and knew damned well it was wrong.
Now, he's been found guilty.
I think he knew this was coming.
I doubt he'll see much jail time, due to his advanced years and health issues... and I'd expect more health issues to arise soon in an attempt to keep himself out of prison.
In the meantime, his legal team will bleed him dry.
Good.
He's a monster.
Plain and simple.
He let a lot of us down, too.

Agreed, although I sort of have the sense that there may really be two kinds of rape insofar as the perpetror's motivation is concerned. The power and domination motivation is certainly true is cases of forcible rape and I think rape by coercion or through the use of drugs administered to the victim is in this category. The other motivation may be less of that and more about lack of self control, general stupidity, perhaps cultural issues, and similar matters.

Yep, the second motivation is probably true more often than we think. It's the unhappy fact that there may be no more complex explanation for the deed than "I can't get laid and I am too stupid and socially dense to figure out a better way to get girls" kind of rape.

Cosby, however, had no excuse whatsoever to be sexually deprived. Sex from willing fans tends to rain down like a thunderstorm on rich famous guys who want to have lots of sex. Sure, he's married but wow...just getting a regular mistress to sneak around with and unload on twice a week would have been ever so much better than what he actually did.

But he did it...despite having legal and consensual options. He did it so very many times that we have all lost count, and the stories that are coming in from this staggering load of accusers is pretty much the same story every time.

Actually, we are a fetish board and I am surprised that no one else has has pointed out that there is a specific fetish called somnophilia, which is a fetish concerning having sex with the sleeping or the drowsy...and this seems to me to fit Bill Cosby completely.

If this is true, then he would have had a few issues to work out, just as we have had to do here. But that's no excuse. He still had options. He could have recognized that he had a problem and sought help and management techniques and acceptable outlets. He could have gotten a therapist early on, or, now that we have the Internet, he could have indulged in videos, and, probably, an entire internet forum that either was about sleepysex or allowed sleepysex and perhaps even negotiated something with a willing (or paid) partner. Geez, it's not like he couldn't afford it.

We are all 100% responsible for managing our own urges, whatever they are, no matter how intense they are, without damaging others. And women in general bear no responsibility or obligation whatsoever for fulfilling the "needs" (they are actually only wants, you do not die if they are not fulfilled) of a man.

Harsh, but I am a fetishist. I have had to live with this reality myself.

I think the biggest enabling factor in this case was that people didn't want to believe it. He was a father figure to pretty much the whole country, somebody everybody trusted, somebody they let into their homes and let teach their children morality and give them ice cream. When that guy turns out to be a sexual predator it's a mind fuck that you don't want to face.

All my life I've been one of those people who thinks they know everything. Then I come in here and I'm struck by the vast amount of nothing I really know because I don't even know where to begin. What you are saying here makes me more aware of my own sexual behaviors. There's sex and then there's fetishistic sex which is about more than just getting laid. Seems so obvious but I don't think I realized that before this moment. You can get a lot of one but it really doesn't make up for the other. I suddenly feel like an idiot for having gone my entire life without catching that.

Exactly. And he relied heavily on that 'America's Dad' rep (among other things) for a long time to make sure that these .women wouldn't be believed if and when they spoke out

So true what you're saying, BSink42. It really goes to show how creepy the man really is. That's some evil stuff right there. I know the 10-year sentence could be a lifetime sentence at his age, but I don't think it's big enough. They should have thrown the book at him.

You can argue over the semantics of it, maybe he's sick, maybe his brains just wired wrong, but what it comes down to is the only way to deal with a dangerous predator is to euthanize it. I wouldn't feel bad about killing a man eating Tiger just because it's teeth are worn down and it's too old to hunt anymore. Ditto Billy McPuddinpop.
