Update- clean bill of health from our family vet today. Settling in wonderfully. She's part cat, though- only dog either of us has ever had that's fussy about what she eats!

Both my dogs were "suddenly homeless"...and I tell ya, especially when you don't know your dog's history for sure...that clean bill of health after the first vet visit is one of the sweetest pieces of news on the planet.

Just an update. Took Honey out to visit friends and relatives. A 5-6 hour car trip is nothing to this dog- she is a seasoned traveler. Good as gold with people and other pets. Unfortunately, right after Thanksgiving dinner, our friend's beagle/pointer cross (with the soul of a Jack Russell/Pitbull cross) after hours of being nice suddenly decided that he wanted a piece of Honey.
I jumped in to separate them, expecting to have to rescue him from Honey's jaws; instead, I had to pry the little twerp's jaws off of her upper jaw! That little critter is game! One of his canines had ended up inside Honey's lower eyelid.
No permanent damage done, luckily, and no hard feelings. But I now know just how ugly dog fighting is. One bite and Honey almost lost an eye, and if she weren't such a Lady she might have torn the other dog to shreds.

I am glad your dog is okay and that no friendships were ended.

Dog fights are very nasty. My first dog, a 21-pound cocker-terrier mix, received a free ear piercing by the next-door neighbor's white Lab...who was, ironically, acquired by them to keep AWAY trouble.

Their garage was broken into only once. So they got this great big Lab, but they never got her properly trained. That dog caused them more problems than all the burglars in the city! The dog died young, and very suddenly. I often wondered...was that really an accident...?

Since it happened after dinner, I was wondering if were there leftovers/bones involved, since that is one thing that can set a dog off! They can be extremely defensive of their food, or what they assume to be their food! I am happy to hear that Honey was not seriously injured, but that was a close call with her eye! Hopefully she didn't suffer a scratched cornea, where symptoms may be squinting, watery eye, dog rubbing its eye/face, swelling/redness of eye, occasional bleeding, or having trouble judging visibility in front of its eye.

The vet stained the cornea and checked it under UV light- all OK. Antibiotic eye drops were all that was needed.
