Good-bye, Peter Falk. Oh, and just one more thing...

This is indeed sad news. I really enjoyed Peter Falk as Lieutenant Columbo. That was such a wonderful TV series. He outsmarted William Shatner and a whole bunch of other outstanding actors and actresses who played the villian's role.

Seems the only suspect to almost get away with it was when Columbo went up against Johnny Cash... Cash's character was boarding a plane with Columbo watching, he dropped keys into the security agent's tray before going through the metal detector. Columbo then turned away with the look of disbelief that all was lost, knowing damn well that Cash was guilty, but had no proof of it. Then saw the keys hanging off the duty belt of a police officer. Suddenly, the light came on and towards the end of the show he busted Cash.

I recall his performance in the movie, Murder By Death. A most outstanding comedy movie with an outstanding star-studded cast to include Falk as Sam Spade. He even carried a gun in the movie... something he didn't do as Lieutenant Columbo.

And, that is an interesting point... in Columbo he's dealing with murders who had no problems killing people, yet, when often busted one-on-one by Lieutentant Columbo, none of these killers ever tried killing him and making a break for it. Perhaps they were just too stunned that someone like Columbo could get the best of them.

Mr. Falk, you most certainly will be missed. You brightened our lives with your unique wit as Lieutenant Columbo. We seem to be losing more and more like you. Best wishes on your new adventure, and best wishes to your family and friends.

Yes! I remember that episode with Johnny Cash. As I recall it, Columbo recognized the keys were those of a rental car. He realized Cash must be coming back, or he would've turned the car in. Sure enough, Cash came back and tried to dispose of the evidence which would've convicted him. Our friendly rumpled detective was waiting for him.

That's how Columbo caught the culprits. He either got them to incriminate themselves, or, even better, he found ways they had already incriminated themselves. The fun part was watching to see how he would catch them.

What a great series, and what a great actor. Peter Falk will be missed.
