I see where you both are coming from but damn....this guy is 68 years old. If the averages play out he's got another 10 years to live, at a cost of $25,000 a year to the American taxpayer. I can think of a thousand things that I'd rather see that money spent on then feeding, clothing, and sheltering a man who enjoys sodomizing young children.

The other inmates aren't going to like him. Although probably, he won't be housed with them because of that.

But maybe being incarcerated will depress him and stress him out, and he'll keel over dead on his own.

With the sentence that's looming over him(400+ years), he's never leaving prison alive. As much as I may wish something violent to happen to him (and all child molestors/rapists); he'll die alone in prison and never be able to touch another child. I can live with that. It's justice and hopefully the beginning of closure for his victims.

Incidentally, I'm told that, etymologically speaking, Yankee = Englishman. During the Seven Years' War (Last of the Mohicans and all that) the French recruited numerous Indian allies, who referred to the two groups of Europeans as Y Francais - the French, and Y Anglais - the English. Y Anglais got corrupted to Yanglais and thence to Yankee. I really hope this is true.

Indeed - and don't for a second get the idea that I have any sympathy for the man. I acknowledge that he deserves to have something very nasty happen to him. But I do believe that it is better for him to be fed and housed for the rest of his natural life, whatever the cost, than for society to become a murderer in its own right. In my opinion the difference between a murderer and an executioner is a matter of semantics.

We've had this debate in England a few times. Myra Hindley (google her when you get a spare moment) spent the last forty years or so of her life encarcerated at the expense of Her Majesty's taxpayer. No-one would have wept to see her hang; but even so.

Over here in America, we had Susan Atkins, a.k.a. "Sadie Mae Glutz", get brain cancer after decades spent in prison for her part in murdering actress Sharon Tate, who was very pregnant at the time she was stabbed to death by Susan and two other members of "The Manson Family".

Some pressed for Susan's release on humanitarian grounds. She was very, very ill, and she was completely incapable of being a threat to anyone at all. Could she die somewhere else?

Nope. Denied. She died in prison.

The trouble with the death penalty is that it's mighty hard to take it back when you turn out to be wrong (it's old, but anybody remember "10 Rillington Place"? The book and the movie based on it really changed my thinking about the death penalty.).

Life in prison without possibility of parole accomplishes exactly the same thing as death. Sure, he's eating food and all that but after you count the way these things drag out, what with all the appeals and stuff...it takes so long to kill them that the savings, if any, isn't exactly, er, a killing.

Don't lump me in with the guy who's obviously into torture porn and don't be an asshole and quote half of something I say. My point was that wasting time and resources keeping scumbags like this alive is a waste. If somebody does something so heinous that society deems they have to be locked away for the rest of their life then what's the point of wasting resources presearving that life?

You've redeemed yourself. This I definitely agree with. It's mind-boggling how much money is spent on keeping prisoners alive.

In case you were not aware of it, the cost to execute someone far exceeds the cost for them to serve a life sentence.

in a case like this, i always think back a few years to when some psycho invaded a classroom of Amish schoolgirls... he apparently had evil intentions but when the police arrived, he shot the girls, killing several, then commited suicide

the Amish community got together and reached out to---- the family of the killer
they visited his widow and parents, comforting them and offering forgiveness

i no longer consider myself a christian...but if you want to see true christian charity at work, google this case
