I know well how to use a caterpillar. When I was a teenager, one of our friends had a caterpillar and taught me now to use it. Then he had me help dig a basement for a future house. But that took a long time. But it's way faster and easier than using a shovel and pick.

I am sure you very correct. All the Studio pits, some of which is more than 6 feet deep, were done with hand tools. But I'm in good muscular shape. (lol)

I used to work out when I was younger, but I became too busy and stopped. The gruntwork that I do at home is the closest thing I do to working out.
Also, the soil where I live is the biggest pain in the ass to dig. Dense clay, roots, rocks, etc.

Here its mostly layer upon layer of rocks once down below about 2 feet.
