And ignoring the fanbase for a bunch of screaming crybitches who would have a hard time SPELLING Vulcan or Phaser, is the kind of retardation that killed Enterprise, and has Paramount in the mess they are in today. Voyager re-started on Space channel today (again) and, the pilot episode is several levels of fail and retardation, and it reminded me of just how fucking STUPID the post -TOS interpretation of the Prime Directive, or , General Order #1 if you splitting hairs, is.

The vid Chuck originally hosted is now gone, but luckily elsewhere (since not sure could upload here now) But it is a good one. The short version is that Kirk's Federation, actually had a clue as to what they were doing, and gave their ship captains a bit of latitude as to how things were done. While it was held to high standards, they were not complete fanatical -religion belief retards who believed it was carved in fucking Shield Rock. The Video is Here, and it still rings true
