Re: Gamers Unite!
Well, if anyone already has the the older AvP demo on the PS3 and X360, you might want to re-download the demo since it's match making problems have been fixed. I think they even added a couple of new features to it.

Thanks for the heads up. I re-downloaded it on Xbox live. Wasn't too fond of it. Looks like the game might be a let down with a lot of review sites giving it mostly average scores.
But that's ok I guess. Resident Evil 5 (Gold Edition) and God of War 3 are right around the corner. And Assassins Creed II is quite the hefty game. (more than I thought)

Yeah, that's the general consensus that I and other players have come to after playing through the demo. It's great when there's a few people playing marines and one each playing aliens and predators as it creates some tense moments. Without that sort of setup, it's not much better than the old Doom games.

Resident Evil 5's updated edition seems like it's going to FINALLY explain the events behind Jill's disappearance, not to mention adding a lot of nice additions that should have already been a part of the game's first release. As for God of War, I can't wait to see how it'll all end.

Looks tempting, but there are only so many hours in a day. . . You can get really wrapped up in a good MMORPG.

I've heard varying things about Star Trek Online, many of them talking of how repetitive and boring the game seems to be when compared to Crytpic's earlier to recent works. Add to the mix that since it's using the same game engine as Champions Online that no longer wants to work on my hardware and you have an instant buzz kill for a Trekkie fan such as myself.

Sigh... so much potential lost. I guess I'll have to wait a couple of years to see if they fix things and add more content.

Got myself a PS3 Slim with 250GB hard drive off ebay. Just £214. Oh yeah, it comes with two controllers, headset, and SEVENTEEN GAMES. Two thirds of them are ones I'm interested in.
Should have been about £400 or £500 or something, but the dude didn't put "and 17 games" in the the title of the listing, just in the actual description itself, and the image was just a stock PS3 image rather than a photo he took himself, so only people that investigated his completely unremarkable-looking PS3 listing discovered it came with all the games!
Should be coming in the post next day or two.
Moral of the story... ebay = win.

Gotta' love it when people screw up listing something valuable on ebay.

Re: Gamers Unite!
Just picked up a new game for $20 at Office Max, of all places. It's called War Leaders: Clash of Nations http://www.warleaders-game.com/
I was wandering through the software aisle after picking up some printer cartridges, and there are DeGaulle, FDR, Mussolini, Churchill, Hitler, Stalin and Tojo staring at me from the box!
Turns out this is my favorite kind of game- turn-based strategy and (if you choose) real-time battles. The combat system isn't perfect for WWII- everything has hit points that gradually get worn away until they either die or get healed/repaired. But there are experience, morale and fatigue, ammo and fuel limits, supply vehicles, etc. And the graphics are good. The vehicle/gun weapon ranges are way, way too short, though. (Sorry- I'm a WWII minis gamer also, and even developed a comprehensive rule set with accurate ranges, armor ratings, gun penetrations, etc.) And the AI tends to just bum-rush your position with everything they have, which may be accurate for the Russians or Japanese, but not so much for the rest of the nations.
The main turn-based map is a 3D representation of the whole globe! So you can really get a feel for commanding the entire war effort for your chosen nation. Balance taxes, trade, R&D, unit production, building construction (factories, airfields, etc.)- it's pretty good, if a flawed gem.
Oh, and they put like, NO money into the voice acting. Choices are either Spanish (seems to be the original language) or English. And the German and Russian troops all talk like Americans.
