ST Axanar Update

Postby kham » Fri Aug 22, 2014 6:32 pm

For the kickstarter goal which was originally $100,000, the current total is over 417k; I dont think that reaching the ultimate final total needed is going to be a problem. There are still 40 hrs left to contribute to this one. They have added Garrett Wang to the cast, as the first D-7 Captain to enter the war. And are angling for a couple other names to recruit.

George Takei put in a plug on his (insanely popular) Facebook page today, so that may kick it up even more.

Quality acting and an interesting story line/plot device. Will watch.

That, and the desire of the fans to have the kind of Trek they have been asking for, for, oh, over a decade. Beavis and Buttface killed the franchise with their retardation and retcon bullshit; their utter disregard of all fan criticism infuriated the fans, to put it politely. Less so, we wanted their fucking heads on pikes.

Then we get JJ Lens Flare and his oh-so-awesome! vision. A good cast stuck in a pile of shit. So it's no surprise that seeing some good old style Trek, from actual canon history, using good scifi veterans doing a kickass story will generate a lot of support. The fact that it jams a large middle finger through JJ and the studios' eye socket is an added bonus.

Well, I voted with my wallet. Special edition Blu-Ray for me!

Indeed. The two-part finale of ST:TNG was better than any of the movies, with the possible exception of #3. Actually, the satire "Galaxy Quest" (Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shaloub) was better than the Trek movies in a lot of ways. If Paramount weren't such huge douchebags, we could have had "The Captain Sulu adventures" with Sulu in command of the USS Excelsior.

There are SO many great stories left in the Trek universe. If I were going to write Trek fan fiction, it would be set either during the Cardassian occupation of Bajor with the Bajoran Resistance and Maquis fighting small-unit actions against the Cardis, or else to the Klingon-Romulan-Federation conflicts of the TOS period and just prior.

That would be too epic! I would probably die of elation watching a series like that!

Generations and First Contact were pretty good, Insurrection and Nemesis.......meh. I don't consider any of them exactly bad, just forgettable, which is not the way the TNG series deserved to go out. Everything got too intellectual and preachy and nobody but the hardcore fan base watched them, which means they didn't sell tickets, which meant the franchise was fucked.....and then our buddy JJ showed up. You can hate the reboot/reimagining/whatever all you want, but the fact of the matter is he made Star Trek relevant again, and he did it by making a good movie.

One thing to note, is that FASA, who did all the source RPG materiel up until 1988 had their licence agreement pulled by all accounts, the douchebag Roddenberry, who was all asshurt that it was "too violent" for the TNG era.... Now there's a fucking mass of irony, right up with the brainbug "starfleet is not a military organization"
Yeah. Which just happens to use naval terminology and command structure. And an Admiralty. And field heavily armed ships. What the fuck are all those phasers on a Galaxy for, mining?? It's no surprise old-school trek has utter contempt for el capitaine earl grey, the skinhead. For someone who was supposedly in the navy, Roddenberry was a blithering imbecile regarding power and the use of it. "If you wish for peace, prepare for war" Guess his classical education skipped that one

JJ Lens Flare you could do a complete separate post tearing things to shreds; I do not dispute he got things back in circulation. I just wish the retard would listen to his own dialogue when planning the films after the first one -- including the 2nd.

5 hrs to go on this Kickstarter; will post total when closed -- and George did give a big assist with his posts on facebook (twice) and on twitter. Thanks, George

The current Kickstarter has ended; it didn't *quite make the biggie, although for a posted goal of 100k, it blew past that in 4 days. Thanks to everyone rightly given, for a total of $638,471 -- short of the total budget by 11,529 bucks -- if they had had maybe another 6 hrs on this one, don't think would have been a problem. But somehow think making that last bit won't be a hard slog

Edit:
Little thank-you from the Axanar team having some fun :D
