From gCaptain

THIS is why fucking DRILLS should just be DRILLS. Yeah, its all shits and giggles. Until someone gets spammed or fucked-up for life. It probably was the lack of a full load but that little fucking detail is likely mentioned in the operating manual if anyone bothered to read it. This is akin to sitting in an ejection seat and pulling the handles because, woo, I sawinamovie!!!
Important safety tip; every type of ejection seat has different protocols, and not following them will just as likely result in ejection, with you losing a few bits. Or dismemberment. Or hopefully just dying, since some outcomes would be worse.

Ay yi yi...

Holy cats! I guess that's kind of an incentive to prevent abandoning ship early.

Rough on the passengers but it's got two things going for it: One, it's quick, you don't spend several minutes getting beaten against the side of the ship if you're going down in bad weather. Two, it's reliable, pull a handle and gravity does the rest, no ropes to get tangled.
I'm guessing those things must be composite? There's no way steel would be that buoyant.

Fibreglass/composites/plastics Myn, very strong and lightweight. Done the helo dunker, but frankly I think a survival suit and going off the pointy end or stern would be my choice. They are eminently seaworthy and near-unsinkable, self -righting and equipped with all the associated survival kit. But you gotta be strapped in tight and properly, like ejecting, or the damn things will have a better chance of killing you. The seats usually face aft in the latest models so they are evolving
