The Department for Culture, Media & Sport insists the BBFC's R18 certificate is a "tried and tested" method for protecting children.

In this wonderful progressive society we live in it is the governments responsibility, not the parents, to control what our children see and hear in the media because it's too hard for parents to actually parent by themselves. This is a good law because it protects children. If you don't like this law you must hate children. You don't hate children do you?
Yea.....that old chestnut works for pretty much everything.

The commonality between the banned acts seems to be an anti-female bias which makes it even more disturbing. Hmmm....I wonder what people or group of people that could be tied to.

ANY time you see some political fuckwit wringing their hands, "think of the children!" you can bet with near 100% certainty that WHATEVER it is they pushing for their agenda is

a) ILLEGAL
and
b) IMMORAL

This is why we have a Constitution in the United States. You can't arbitrarily make idiot laws that violate the natural rights of everyone. It took a while to get the bugs out but now we've refined the process to the point that damn near nothing can be made illegal.

It only affects UK porn producers. It's still completely legal to watch this fetish material (and for people to do this stuff themselves in their own homes), and simply means that we'll have to get it from american/european producers. It sucks if you are a UK porn producer, though.

Like most foreign things in the news I'm sure there's a great deal of detail we don't understand. This being the 21st century and all that and the ease with which any information anywhere can be sent even to the most totalitarian regimes, how is this expected to actually change anything? I guess I don't understand the purpose.

Efforts of this kind are, in my view, most likely motivated by a need to deflect attention away from something whomever is behind it would find embarrassing.
