2015 IIHF World Juniors

Postby kham » Fri Dec 26, 2014 9:49 pm

It's Boxing Day, and everyone in Canada knows what that means :D

Yes, boys and girls, it's time for another set at the World Juniors. 4 games went today to kick things off;
Matchups were
Russia 3 Denmark 2 (SO)
USA 2 Finland 1 (SO)
Sweden 5 Czech Republic 2
and :)
Canada 8 Slovakia 0
LOT of scorers, but Max Domi (yes, he's Tie's young fella) had probably the best setup pass of the night, followed by the nastiest snapshot goal you'll ever see.

4 more games go tomorrow, we get Germany in the night game

Tie Domi was probably one of my favorite non Habs players, up there with Iginla. I might be young but My dad tell me all sorts of stuff about Domi. Wonder will his son follow in that footstep.

Also We really need to end the drought.

Tie was perceived as a tough guy, but he was always more than that. Max is a serious first-round pick

Day 2 in the books with a couple different results

Sweden 5 Denmark 1
Slovakia 2 Finland 1 owch
Swiss 5 Czech Republic 2 double ouch
and
Canada 4 Germany 0

another goal for Max :)

some commentary about how we were sloppy, or undisciplined; gotta say something I guess

Off day for us tomorrow

Another day in the books;

Czech Republic 4 Denmark 3 (OT)
USA 3 Slovakia 0
Sweden 3 Russia 2 Swedes showing they the real thing

AND

Canada 4 Finland 1

2 goals from Sam Reinhart, and 2 assists for Max Domi, one of which was in the colossal fuck you column
After held down offside for about 20 sec, he gets up, gets back onside, cycles into the play into the rush, sets up tick-tac-toe-screw you in the net. Beautiful

Early game, the Swedes murdered the Swiss 5-1

The Main Event... :D
did not disappoint, probably the best game played yet by the two best teams in the tournament
Final score was 5-3 Canada, with 2 empty-net goals from Canada split between a pair of goals from Larkin; US goalie was stellar or would have been a bloodbath. Bob Mackenzie, not one easily moved to hyperbole, described Max Domi and Sam Reinhart as Fire and Ice; Sam is cool, a thinker, lot like Wayne was; Max is more Lightning in a bottle, passion, lot like Mario was. And they both going to be in the NHL together, hoo boy, the future is going to be something

Games still pending, Russia/Czech, Germany/Finland

That was a real barn burner of a game, eh? :D

I just hope the rest of the tournament lives up to it. ;)

Holy crap, the Czech Republic puts the beatdown on Russia, 4-1

And the Finns defeat Germany 2-0 to avoid the humiliation of being sent to the relegation round for next years tournament, which they HOST....

Uh HUH

especially when you consider, from the start of the 3rd period, they went 9 1/2 min straight without a whistle....and the only reason there was one was the puck made contact with a high stick - a technicality.
