Just wondering what everyone thinks about this phenomenon. It seems to reveal that perhaps a lot of people have kinks then previously thought. A lot of folks are crying that this glorifies rape culture. I don't agree with that. Just wondering since this is a fetish website, what some of us are thinking about it.

My main problem with this is it is hard to take seriously a poorly written porn tale based on a Twilight fanfic, even with all the bare skin and whips...

Yeah, I've heard it's pretty bad. Don't read it if you value your sanity.

Didn't have an interest in them but from what I hear they benefited more from the skill of a good marketing team than from the talent of the author. The same is being said about the movie.

The first I heard of this was actually from....My aunt! She is a poetry and story writer. She actually laughed about it saying it was horrible.

After I collected my jaw that fell about 6 inches (my proper aunt read a fetish novel? ). She told me that this was actually a hit! Interesting thing the dominant male always has to be filthy rich in these kind of tales.

People are actually protesting it. Holding signs saying MR GREY IS A RAPIST. On another forum I tried talking to someone that is obviously in this camp. I told them I think the women in this story were consenting. Therefore this wasn't a rape story!

Good thing I wasn't talking to this person face to face. My ears would probably still be wringing!

The parody video "50 Shades of Grey - THE MUSICAL" is probably better than the actual book or film.

I have seen the movie. My expectations were minimal.

Mr Grey (Jamie Dornan) seemed almost apathetic during the supposedly kinky scenes. I think he overdid the cool, controlled part of the character. IMO Dakota Johnson's acting was much better than his. Her portrayal of the inexperienced, curios college girl was quite convincing. Overall I found the movie to be entertaining and devoid of any scenes I would consider scandalous.

Just don't try to take it seriously. Think of it as a comedy.

Fox News has run not one, but two Op/Ed pieces on how "50 Shades" promotes violence against women, etc. etc.- the whole litany of why erotica is of the devil. The first columnist actually said "While I haven't read the book, I have read about it, and. . ." and proceeded from a rant into a sermon about how BDSM was contrary to "God's plan for married couples." The second wasn't much better- more of how consensual BDSM is the same as forcible sexual assault, how dangerous it is for women, etc. What total ignorant, uninformed BS. "My mind's made up- don't try to confuse me with the facts!"

My Lady Wife and I are (relatively) vanilla, outside of an active fantasy life and passionate, creative sex. My second girlfriend had been abused, so it was all gentle and caring with her. My first girlfriend- liked it rough. By the way she was raised, sex was sin, and a girl who wants and enjoys sex is a slut and a whore. But if she could be "forced" to do all the stuff she wanted to do anyway, like in a roleplay of a decidedly non-brutal "date rape", it really rocked her world. Damn, if I'd had the understanding then I have now. . . at the time, I was really uncomfortable of even pretending to "press my advantage" with a willing partner. :( If I could only have gotten her stuck in the mud, and asked her "How bad do you want out of there?" Sigh. . .

Indeed Nachtjaeger. Fox news! They report they decide! And if we don't agree we are all subversive Obama drones robbing everyone blind with food stamps, and forcing everyone into gay marriages!

But putting that aside we should look at a very important fact. For some submissive sexuality isn't harmful,it's actually quite fulfilling! (Raises hand).

Emotional needs are met in very different ways. And some of us enjoy an alpha position in our sexuality, and some the other. Personally I don't feel that I'm a bad person for enjoying it either. I'm just differently talented.

I'm also gay. And some would say that makes me more apt to be this way. Well that's of course total BS. Because all persuasions enjoy this. So I file that idea under epic fail assumptions.

And the norms seem to forget that to some, this actually increases love and intimacy. But oh we can't have idea out there! We kinksters all have to be disgusting, vile monsters. News flash the real monsters come from those who suppress it.

And yes to some extent submission and dominance play a powerful role in our sinker fantasies also. I'd love to see what Fux news would say about quicksand fetishism.

Personally I have nothing but total trust in my partner, and we are totally consenting in what we do. The so called biblical/armchair therapists be damned. I don't need what their selling.

And yes I'm opinionated and everyone should be!

Do they even realize that they are adding fuel to the movie's (IMO undeserved) hype? :?
