Kudos to them, and the 911 operator, to notifying everyone, including the boy scouts Sure the chances of 3.8 Megatons of boom were minimal, but do you feel like playing Dirty Harry with a 50-year old gadget? Never mind the HE charge that are still in it.

57 years in the open, and SPECTRE still couldn't find it. That organization has really gone down the tubes since Blofeld was killed.

I would've loved to see the look on the guys face when he read the label. Bet he banged on it first to see if it was hollow.
Probably harmless after sitting in swamp water for 50 years but with a yield of 3.8 Megatons it pays to be careful.

Wikipedia reports a blog entry contending the story is a fake but I cannot verify.

I had to consult this acronym finder to learn that HE abbreviates "High-Explosive" as in other contexts I have seen it mean "Happy Ending"!
