Just a little rant about pets

Postby Cuthbert » Tue Feb 24, 2015 2:57 am

First of all I will start out by saying I love cats. I always have, always will. Never had a dog,but this rant is about pets in general.

My elderly aunt in her seventies likes all animals. At one time she had two dogs and three cats at one time. But nearly all of these were rescue cases. Because for some inconceivable reason. A great deal of her neighbors mistreated their pets. Her dog she has now she rescued over 12 years ago. It was left out at all hours in pouring rain, cold and heat. She pretty much forced the dumb shit owners to give the dog to her.

But where she lives now. Her neighbors next door recently moved away. Thank Christ! I know better then to give any specifics about them. But I will post this rap sheet.

1.One cat was reduced to a mean growling catzilla by the kids that lived there. It had to be taken away, probably put to sleep.
2.A dog they hardly ever fed right,or watered. My aunt took up that slack.
3.Another cute little black cat killed by a car. They never left it in the house. I have bad guilt. Because I said before if I could I would have liked to own that one.
4.One other cat they pretty much abandoned. My aunt confronted them about it. Their answer? "Oh we don't like her anymore!"
5.one other cat that got pregnant. And guess who took her in? Nursed her and her babies? That's right! My aunt again. Right after she swore she wouldn't keep anymore animals. She kept the mother.

Now my aunt did contact the SPCA but they weren't very supportive. It seemed they had different attitudes towards cats, compared to dogs.

Now thinking about these ignorant stupes that are gone (good riddance to them!) I just can't understand asshole like this.

Don't they realize animals have feelings? That they feel hurt, pain, confusion, sadness? That they realize when they are unwanted?

Hell I all but worship my calico long hair! She greets me every morning biting my toes! And I can't go anywhere till she's fed and petted. I can tell she is quite happy because she is treated well. I once had a panic attack because I couldn't find her. The brat was sleeping on top a high cupboard.

I still cherish memories of my old cat that passed away after 19 years :(

First of all I think we all should keep our pets indoors. I think my old cat was a target of malicious mischief. And one of my aunt's old cats was shot by some dumb fuck with a BB gun.

Perhaps their needs to be a more rigorous licensing system? I won't even post what I feel like doing to those who knowingly torture or abuse animals! Hint= Its quite nasty with a bit of red.

What do you all think?

Yup.....Got into it with one of my neighbors last summer because I can't let my girlfriend's Rabbit outside unsupervised without their asshole cat showing up and harassing it. They actually have a doggy door (yea for a cat) installed in their back door and the fucking thing just comes and goes at will.
Should be mandatory that a dog/cat be spayed/neutered and chipped before selling it.

Not normally a fan of regulation but there should be some sort of licensing/vetting process for people just to own a pet in general.

The sad part of it is, some of these folks (every race, creed, color, etc.) treat their kids like they treat their pets. Throw a little food at them when they remember, otherwise just let them run outside unsupervised. Mom was telling me about seeing three small kids locked outside on a roofless porch on a raw, rainy day- because their Mom and her boyfriend-du-jour were "busy".

We've only got three pets- one cat, one dog, and one turtle. We'd love to have more, but the expense of taking proper care of critters isn't small, and the time and attention they require isn't small either. Three is plenty. BTW, my cousin (actually my Granddad's first cousin) used to have a pet rabbit, who came in and out a cat door and used a litterbox. And I don't think anybody in my family has ever had a "store bought" pet- all rescues/adoptions. Same with my wife. Her father did buy at least one dog from a reputable breeder- "Danny Boy" was an Orange Belton English Setter he bought as a bird dog. Except it turned out he was hopeless as a hunting dog- couldn't spot birds until he ran through a flock of them, and he was also gun-shy. Shoot at a bird, forget him retrieving it- he was heading for home as fast as he could run! He did make an excellent pet, though.

One thing that really bothers me is the people who just throw their pets outside. There's a big difference between a soaking wet, hungry dog freezing to death under a porch, and a dog who spends part of their time outside in a fenced "dog yard" equipped with a warm, comfy, waterproof doghouse and a shade tree. Even if you live where you get severe cold weather, they make heated dog beds and heated water bowls. If the poor thing just can't be housebroken, or is destructive if left alone, etc.- at least make sure they have living quarters that you'd sleep in yourself.

Oh I forgot to add those fools that left had a dead rabbit also. It choked to death on a carrot. One wonders how those cretins got away with that much. And they were reported. I know our porch has been used as a shelter in bad weather also. When I try bringing in a stray they usually run away.

It's a combination of lax enforcement and people making bad decisions. Fish keeping is an obsession I mean hobby of mine, see dumb shit all the time that amounts to someone not doing their research. FYI, those cute little sucker fish you buy to "clean the algae off your tank" need to eat more than algae and will get 3 feet long if you feed them right.
