The only thing I see in the article is how the gas, which was created in the "Big Bang" (creation of the universe) and is found in the mantle, was detected leaking through the Newport-Inglewood Fault, which implies that the fault runs much deeper than expected. The fault had to directly or indirectly connect to the mantle for the gas to escape. The deeper fault could mean that the threat of "The Big One" has increased from about 4.7% to 7.0% in the next 30 years, while risks of smaller quakes has gone down. The gas is just an
