Destroyer USS The Sullivans Damaged After Missile Explodes After Launch, No Injuries Reported

Rare having a motor fail in solids, but it has happened. Likely someone will conclude was crack in fuel, its about the only thing that can do it outside of a breach in the casing. And that would mean someone serious screwed their inspections.

Could've been a lot worse. At least it got out of the launcher before blowing up. No casualties = happy ending.

That was the first thing a lot of people said, having it go off on ignition in the cell might have been a bad day, doing USS Maine impression. Now, the techo-wonks and the trade school types all giving the party line about how the chances of a chain or sympathetic detonation would be virtually impossible, and the armour, yadda yadda....

yeah
And BB's despite being the most armoured and protected units ever, suffered a remarkable number of magazine explosions when things went bad. Sometimes while just going about their business, never mind in action
