Donetsk Airport. Artillery fire correction using UAVArticle at Bring the Heat Seems to me a logical, practical use if simple off-the-shelf drones; add a GPS to it and, holy shit you have coordinates. Which are probably good enough for your arty to use. And, oh yeah, your drone can call the spot too if it hangs around. Given how the Russian Army likes mass artillery, this a pretty good idea. Lot cheaper too than those multi-million dollar droids up in the stratosphere.....

Or just tape a pound of C4 to it and pick an expensive landing spot.

Actually, Russia has several types of serially produced UAVs for military purposes and extensively uses them on Ukrainian territory. Many of them were shot down, but unfortunately they usually can send the coordinates before they were shot.

Oh, no doubt; this just is a remarkably simple and easy to use piece of gear that the average guy can use with no formal training.

Even the little $20 models you get at radio shack are idiot proof, with a microprocessor balancing out the 4 rotors it's as easy as flying one in COD.
What'll be really cool is to see this technology put into something that a person could sit on/in. Cheap easy to fly helo that fits in my garage? Yea here have this blank check.....
