The Dolphins and the Jets. Meh. I'll watch it on the telly.


As ever, there is a certain amount of journalistic interest, including an inventory of the Jets' baggage. Apparently, they've brought 2,623 items of kit, which is fair enough, though whoever counted them probably needs to get a life. They've also packed various comestible items, including rather a lot of barbecue sauce. Well, OK - I never go abroad without a supply of tea-bags. But the last items intrigues me - 350 toilet rolls.

Pardon?

England is not a third world country. We have plumbing everywhere. The requisite paperwork is supplied free of charge at every hotel, and can be purchased quite cheaply at any supermarket. Having never visited America, I haven't experienced the US equivalent, but it can't be that different. Can it?

And 350 rolls. Three hundred and fifty?

Lets see - a 53-man roster; coaches, assistants, kit-men, press officers, various hangers-on whose role is a mystery... say a hundred souls. Four days. That's close to one roll per person per day. Am I the only person who thinks that's rather a lot?

I am tempted to suggest they must be arseholes!!

I wonder if maybe some wires got crossed and they're worried about having to deal with bidets?

Listening in on a morning comedy show here in the states, listeners were told that the NFL wanted as little change to the routine of the teams and players as possible. The quantities of the mentioned "Stationary" (seriously love that phrase) was for the long term use there. I'm hearing 6 weeks.

So... this brings to light a question. What does England have for tp? Quilted? Single ply or two?

You would be amazed at the lengths teams go to in avoiding disruption to the players routine when traveling. I suspect the stationary in question was 350 rolls of quilted Charmin or something in order to avoid just that. The head coach may have a personal favorite. The crew I travel to Central America with carries two or three rolls per man but that's a little different situation since the local equivalent resembles #40 grit sandpaper even when it can be found.

All of those are available as options. Given the use to which I intend to put it, I personally go for the cheaper brands, but I assure you it is up (or possibly down) to the job. More expensive brands are available (I went and checked earlier today) including Charmain. I also love the way that we all instinctively talk around the subject - including the advertisers who never quite get to the bottom of things. Go to you-tube and search for Andrex puppy.

During the game - which over here featured much filling-in by the presenters, whilst interminable adverts were being shown stateside - the Tissue Issue (I wish I'd thought of that) was mentioned. Someone said that since it was the Jets it made them think about the Butt-Fumble in a whole new way.

Oh and by the way - Stationery and Stationary are words that mean rather different things. At least in countries that spell Colour with six letters.

Quite right but Steve Jobs was American so auto correct assumes everyone is.

The Titans play the Dolphins and the Jets this season so I'm not wanting either to play very well. I guess someone has to lose though.
