As one senior officer had put it, removing the badge at the time was about the same as removing Ferrari's distinctive prancing horse badge and expecting everyone to be ok with that....

Not to mention, anyone with a functional brain who studies history even a little, knows that whole point of the badge is likely their finest hour; hell there's even a big chunk of a movie about it. Think the movie is called The Longest Day? Pegasus Bridge. Where the actor commanding the paras there was ACTUALLY there doing it in 1944?

There was Arnhem, too, where the 1st Airborne performed superbly; certainly better than could have been humanly expected under the circumstances. Sure, MARKET GARDEN was a failure, but it wasn't the paras' fault that the drop was launched with faulty intel and that Horrocks wasn't able to keep to the overambitious road advance timetable.

A Bridge too Far certainly showed how good the Paras were, but it's not the sort of film that was completely upbeat. As Sean's character put it, he took 10,000 men into Arnhem, and came out with less than 2. If Monty had been in the Red Army, he would have been given one round and a suggestion to avoid the paperwork...
