I do indeed remember that show, although it did not last very long. However, I believe the show was on in the mid to late 60s, not 50s. Unless there were two versions.

You were right, my bad. It was the 60's and his name was Thomas Hewitt Edward Cat!

Another original talent gone. But his work will live on.

Independence Day.

I remember him as "Mancuso", an FBI agent of the old school who found himself at odds with the yuppies who increasingly dominated the agency, and who's hunches usually proved right. I particularly liked the episode where he proved that the plutonium missing from a reprocessing facility had not been stolen by terrorists as claimed, but had actually leaked away over the previous twenty years; the owners had disguised the leaks through "creative accounting" and when the deficit got too big to hide, staged a robbery (including killing a security guard) and blamed the loss on terrorists; something like what the banks have been up to for the past few decades......
