Yes folks, that would be an Elephant Gun in this calibre It's something when you have him shooting a rifle whose round is so powerful that he can't even risk it on the armoured plates meant for actual rifles. Just comparing it to a .308 is a giggle.

Bigger cartridges are mandated nowadays simply to ensure a quick clean kill (and a non-trampled hunter). Some of the most famous elephant hunters in history (Including Teddy Roosevelt) used a 30-06. You can take them down with a bow and arrow if you have balls as big as this chick....

That is ballsy. I do note the beast trundled on for a quarter of a mile though. Which I think would be sub-optimal if you were in that general direction Still, quite a feat for her.

Part of the attraction is hunting an animal that's actually capable of defending itself. Yea you have a gun......but Jumbo weighs 8 tons, can run at 30mph and has a mean temper. It's like trying to kill an angry dump truck.

Poor folk like me will sadly never get the experience. I'll have to settle for a Hippo or a Cape Buffalo when I scratch Africa off my bucket list.

4 Bore (Black Powder): 1,750 grain projectile. Muzzle velocity around 1330 ft/sec. Equals out to 6,750 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

.500 Nitro Express (modern smokeless powder): 570 grain projectile. Muzzle velocity = 2180 ft/sec. 5850 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

Bet I could get a big piece of bar stock and machine it to fit those cartridges. Be legal too because it's black powder.
