Jets are where it's at, true, but nothing beats the classic lines of the piston driven planes.

Wasn't sure what this thread was going to be about. First, I thought it might be the WWI SPAD S.XIII, which Eddie Richenbacher flew to fame and glory. Another meaning of SPAD is "Signal Passed At Danger" - in British English, the railroad equivalent of CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain.)
But the Skyraider works, too!

One of the bazillion things on my "to do" list is build a radial-flow jet engine based on the Tesla (disc) turbine. Near as I can figure, it could be designed and built as a bolt-in replacement for a big Radial. With today's materials, precision machining, and a couple of tweaks I made to the basic turbine design, it might even be reasonably fuel efficient.

There's a lot of really cool aircraft engine restoration/startup vids on youtube, fun to watch.

I flew up to the HFM a couple months ago and saw it in one of the hangars (I had seen it fly a few years back). An old gentleman approached us and introduced himself as Bill Anders, the owner. Yes, that Bill Anders.
