Then , someone dug out this one...
The obvious first thought (FAKE) but, some checking which wasn't even hard, confirmed that no, this was a real shot. Apparently the photographer knew the pilot who was flying that day, and had his camera with him while walking his kids. The pilot was coming in to land after a test flight, when a fuel leak ignited and melted some important bits in the tail. The aircraft pitched up violently, at least giving him time to eject, and giving the shot here. He made it, landing in the greenhouses in the background there (very Battle of Britain..) but with broken legs since he didn't get full chute deployment. Ruined some tomatoes too. The things the Brits dwell on...
