Not deep enough for on-topic, but if you like fishing, and beautiful girls barefoot in the mud, you'll love this video.
Gee, part of the north meadow on my place is really wet- I wonder if rice will grow in Upstate NY? Net some Bullheads (mini-catfish) someplace and let them swim in the paddy eating mosquito larvae and such.

EDIT: Hmm, apparently you can grow rice in the Northeast US, if you use rice that was bred for Hokkaido Province in Japan:

Then there is wild rice. If it can grow wild in Manitoba, it can definitely grow well in Upstate NY. 8-)

Fish eats the mosquitos and makes fertilizer for the plants, which keep the water clean by eating the fertilizer. In a few months you're eating fried catfish on a bed of rice. Aquaponics!

You can do it inside too but the equipment investment (tanks, pumps, etc.) gets pricy if you want to do anything large scale.

A buddy of mine on Facebook does Aquaponics outdoors seasonally, since he rents a place.
