I don't understand how their algorithm works, When I put in quicksand, this is the most popular result?

Using the ap for deviant art on my tablet, there are tabs that allow view of most recent as well.
I'm with you as to why this is most popular. :-/ confusion reigns. Perhaps the color of the top... or her attempts at modeling "muddled thinking"?

Generates a random number?
Actually, "most popular" is a great excuse to promote anything because nobody would ever check that algorithm and even if this happens they will simply admit that "there was a bug and it will be corrected in one of the future updates".

The main problem is that search algorithms can't distinguish between "quicksand" - the actual physical quagmire, and "quicksand" - the metaphor.

Indeed, searching 'quicksand anime' gets far better results, from my experience...
