Very interesting. The encounter with the LST is so not-well-known, this is the first time I'd even heard of it. I don't recall reading it in any of the Indianapolis books. But it appears to track, and while its by no means definitive, it does give a new search area.
The Gods of War, must be comedians too; LST 779 provided the flag that was raised on Suribachi....
