I've been licensed for a little over a year now, and I'd say it's as safe as you make it. Don't tailgate, don't speed excessively and ALWAYS wear your gear. You don't have to go full Power Ranger like those guys do but boots, gloves and a full face helmet are mandatory unless you're stupid.

I get nervous when I go too fast on my bicycle, so I can't imagine reaching speeds like that! I do like the NYOOM sound those things make though.
