FITZGERALD is Coming Home ... to the East Coast

Postby kham » Mon Aug 07, 2017 8:21 pm

From CDR Sal

Line item 16 isolated:

16. Description: Request one U.S. or foreign flag Float On/Float Off (FLO/FLO) vessel capable of transporting an ARLEIGH BURKE class destroyer from Far East to U.S. Gulf Coast or U.S. East Coast.

So, what? Nothing on the West Coast can take her??
Some of the comments are good, and probably correct. Keep an eye on what asshole needs votes or retired flag is getting fucking big money for this.

Please, at least have the fucking sense to not charter a Chinese-owned or crewed vessel....

I wouldn't want to cross two oceans in that not knowing what other structural damage there was, and they won't really be able to asses till they start tearing out the broke stuff.

From Wikipedia - "Repairs on the ship may overlap with planned service life extension and electronics upgrades"

Maybe she's headed back to the builder.

Well, you need one complete SPY panel, you don't un-bend those things so there's that. But as has been said before, the damage unseen is way worse than you think. From what I hearing they going to treat as new unit; cut away damaged sections and replace with complete new sections.

It's actually the most economical thing to do too. Way more labor hours to try to repair the damage than to just cut it out and put in new steel.

It will be interesting seeing the repair shots in drydock, assuming they show, But be harder to blot out things when on the deck of a heavy lift ship. Besides, its not like anything really classified there
