Quicksand Fans

I've been appointed "Eclipse Officer" at work by virtue of general geekiness and being a back yard astronomer all my life. Here in Middle Tennessee we will have a couple of minutes of totality and Nashville is rife with eclipse parties. Ironically my daughter's boyfriend is going to be in the best location in southern Illinois in an area familiar to many in this group, near Chester. Looks like Studio 588 should achieve something like 90% totality. Anybody else making eclipse plans?

Me and a couple of friends are making a day of it, going up into the mountains to a lookout spot to see it happen. Also figured getting away from civilization was prudent in case of potential craziness.
It'll only be about 80%, not total from here but still something to see. Pretty much a once in a lifetime thing unless I live to 250.

Not this one; be about 75% here, so not really worth trying anything but will be interesting to see how dark it gets

Here in Vernon, BC, in the north Okanagan, it is supposed to be 80%, although in Osoyoos, in the south Okanagan, it is supposed to be 90%. I will probably set up something to project the sun on something (but not focused so as to start a fire), and watch it that way. There is an interesting effect that happens to the dappled sunlight through the leaves of plants/trees/bushes - they all form numerous crescents!

I still remember the day back in February 26'th, 1979, when we lived in Beausejour, Manitoba, and got to witness a total solar eclipse which passed directly over us! It was quite interesting!

for my birthday my sons got me a hotel room in SC so we can drive down and get into the Totality zone; better not be cloudy!

Doubt it will even be noticeable here.

Manning SC may not be a tourist destination on normal days, but everyone there was super helpful and friendly
and while there were clouds in the sky, they all blew past in timed
and i missed the I 95 parking lot by taking back roads
so... totally worth it
