Not a whole lot of updates; they are pierside in Singapore now. At least 3 compartments flooded, including one shaft alley
10 men missing

AIS track data
Of course, the McCain has no AIS turned on.... but you can infer it's position from the other traffic.
They were on course 140 crossing the lane. Other ship was on 228

This was posted yesterday without much fanfare on gCaptain. The mere fact that it took so long, and wasn't publicized much tells me it wasn't a very pretty thing to get into. :(

Yeah, that's the way I read the same announcement from another source.

Accidents happen but it's gotten to the point where you wonder how they will dodge anti-ship cruise missiles when merchant ships appear to be quite capable of sinking our navy.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

There's a lot of discussion going on right now, and some ideas to fix. The problem is that it is all from the guys who retired, or in other services. And therin lies the problem. You have too many flags who have rice bowls to protect. It REALLY IS A JOB NOW, and they don't want to listen. I mentioned elsewhere, that killing the Surface Officer college at Newport was an utterly retarded idea, just to save MONEY, and a pittance compared to other toys. And there's the bit where every other Navy on this planet, has it's bridge watch officers certified and hold STCW standard marine licences. The US Navy, DOES NOT. They do not attend the RN Deck Officer Postgrad School, which is essentially a surface version of Perisher (which USN Submariners ALSO never go to - but other Navies do, including the RCN, Israelis, Germans... sensing a theme?) They refuse to be graded by anyone else. That alone, is arrogance on a scale that is breathtaking. You think I was kidding, when I said they are a 19th-century organization being dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th-century?
You can't learn if you aren't listening. Firing one Admiral, and canning the usual suspects wont fix a fleet-wide problem. And as you say, what happens when they have to fight a near-peer opponent? They really need to re-read stuff about what happened in 1942. Seriously

It really is funny how history and reality works

Today on gCaptain:
A King’s Orders To The U.S. Navy

1941
And you should note, the Zero-defect mentality of the Navy is NOT new. It is, however, utterly toxic

Plus, this little bit should be noted:

The Secretary of the Navy is a USMC Aviator. Chief Of Naval Operations, Adm. John Richardson, is a submarine commander. Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Bill Moran, is an aviator. Adm. Scott Swift, the commander of the Navy’s Pacific Fleet and the man selected to fix the problems, is an aviator.

Notice a certain community missing? Not new. And not easy fix. The last time, it took dozens of ships lost and thousands of casualties. Not sure that sort of a buffer zone exists now
