This is why I've pretty much stopped watching the news altogether. American journalism is a fucking joke. Integrity has been entirely pushed aside in favor of what insane headline will get the highest ratings. If CNN said the sky was blue I'd walk outside and look up expecting to see green.

I think they're actually Marxists. I read somewhere they originated in East Germany where they were/are the militant wing of the communist party.
They also make up about .00001% of the population, which means that while good for ratings they have about as much actual effect as a fart in a septic tank. If you stop watching the news they go away.

Personally, I don't think Lee would have given the time of day to his modern-day "supporters"; I recall reading that he told soldiers who wanted to go on fighting after Appomattox not to be silly, and to go home and make the peace work. Didn't he tell someone who said that there would be statues of him all over the South one day, that "I have no desire to spend the rest of eternity being used as a latrine by pigeons"?
And another thing; the supposed "defenders of Southern culture" didn't seem to principally concerned with statues; they were mostly shouting stuff about Jews!

Charlottesville was the result of two groups of assholes deliberately staging a confrontation that they knew would result in violence. On one side you had neo-nazis. On the other side you had marxist terrorists. There were no good guys here. If you want to feel bad for someone save your pity for the actual residents of Charlottesville, who didn't ask to have their city invaded by scumbags.

This is bullshit; antifa are anti-fascists, not fascists, and represent a generally positive and necessary challenge to the increasingly overt violence coming from the right and the police; and the only person who killed and injured people in Charlottesville was a pro-Trump Nazi, so the whataboutism is especially feeble in this case. If you'd take the time to read some actual history, you'd find out that yes, Lee was in fact in favor of abolition, and his views on race, while fucked up by today's standards, were in fact inline with most progressive opinions of the time.
