Quicksand Fans

So far as I am aware there are two performers who have played they Doctor after having played another character on the Dr. Who series (the original or new series). Name the performer, and the prior character played. [Having played another character AFTER being the Doctor does not count.]

And bonus points if anyone can name a third.

peter capaldi played that citizen in the pompei episode, then was the twelfth doctor. He also worked for the government on torchwood in the children of earth season

That's one. The citizen was called Caecilius.

Now who was the other?

The other one was Colin Baker, the sixth doctor. Prior to that role he played a character called Maxel, an officious Timelord minor official.

I was thinking it was Colin, but I couldn't remember the initial character he played, and Googling seemed like cheating.

If you want to really cheat (and consider the audios canon), then three Doctors have played other roles prior to becoming the Doctor as David Tennant has played a few different characters in the Big Finish Audio stories prior to his being cast as the Tenth Doctor.
