Please be careful in the southwest

To those of you who might be in the path of Hurricane Rosa please be cautious. Six or mor inches of rain is a lot anywhere but especially so in areas that are normally very dry. Flash floods come very quickly and they can kill. You can look for mud later.

Tropical Storm Rosa now. Looks like it's headed due east and is currently beating up the middle of poor Baja California at this moment, from what I can see in animated satellite photos...It should miss California entirely at this rate, though Arizona looks like it's getting drenched...

Looks like it is crossing Baja at the same point as Hurricane Jimena (2009), which caused me to experience my first Buffalo burger, and two straight days in Cabo.

Seemed like a drag at the time, but looking back, it wasn't so bad.

On a serious note though, I was in Cabo on a different trip, about a week after a hurricane visited there. Lost of problems - especially with power and roads. Desert areas don't fare well with heavy (tropical) downpours.

Western AZ is under numerous flood warnings and a town on the Tohono Odahm reservation has been evacuated completely due to the imminent failure of an earthen dam. All roads into Mexico West of Tucson are currently closed due to extensive flooding, some places got 6 to 8 inches of rain in the past 48 hours....considering that 12 inches is the yearly average, needless to say, flooding will continue for several days.
