Make that one sailor awarded the Darwin medal (posthumously) and one skipper busted back to E3.

Oh , he probably just a little singed around the edges, and might need some new coveralls. Not the skippers fault if some imbecile violates GQ procedures, especially during a live-fire exercise. Y''see there IS a good reason you supposed to be off the weather decks then unless your post is actually there.... particularly strolling past the VLS cells.....

Oh, and this just seems wrong somehow

And this shot is just 5 flavours of awesome :D

Whether his coveralls got singed or not, he's still gonna need new ones.

And I meant the skipper of the schnellboot getting in hot water. Or perhaps the Germans are more tolerant of mistakes.

Some paint, buff that right out, never know the difference :D

Didnt really look as bad as it could have been, but if he had just held the turn to port he probably would have missed. Then again if he was thinking, he wouldnt have been trying in-company manuevering at over 25 knots at less than a thousand yards seperation :P

It has happened before, with a lot messier results

I remember that one, and its a good example now of bad BRM and lousy plotting, not to mention rules of the road; the liner is actually the give-way vessel and should have altered to starboard, so all the rest of the disaster flows from there. Insisting the other vessel alter course when they are the stand-on vessel , well, put mildly you dont have a leg to stand on. And then when they did alter course when in extremis, they altered course the wrong way. Very sad incident.

Very good sketch of the tactical plot here
