An earlier trivia question mentioned Johnny Weismuller as having played two sports in the Olympics and also having a career in the movies. There was another athlete who was on the US team in both of these same sports, although he did not actually play in any water polo games in the Olympics. He did win several gold medals in swimming however. He later had a movie career. Who was he?
Hint that should make this one fairly easy: Within the world of sports he was actually better known for a different sport that was not in the Olympics.
No cheating!

Re: Another sports trivia
No fun looking it up.
I know this has to be wayyyyy off, but when someone says "7 gold medals in swimming" the only name that pops into my head is "Spitz". Keep in mind that I only started watch the Olympics in 1972 as a pre-teen.
I know Phelps won a lot, but I don't think he's done anything TV or movie-wise. I MIGHT have seen Mark Spitz on Sonny & Cher or something, not sure.
Anyone else going to try to venture an answer? This isn't a one-on-one interview, folks.

It was not Spitz. Note that the description said "several" not "seven."

Re: Another sports trivia
The answer is Duke Kahanamoku. Although he was a successful Olympian he is best known for the sport of surfing.
