Mt. St. Helens

Monday the 18th was the 40th anniversary of the largest volcanic eruption in the lower 48 states in roughly 500 years (also at St. Helens). As a small child, this was a formative event for me and sparked my interest in natural events and processes. It was a dream come true to finally visit the mountain a few years ago, and to stand near the shores of Spirit Lake. I planned on returning this year, but COVID-SARS-2 ended that dream. No matter; the mountain will be there when it's safe to visit.

I still remember the purple evening skies in the San Francisco bay area for at least a year.

Mount St. Helens Is Going Green Again

Ever notice the final story in "Fantasia 2000" appears to be based on the Mt. Saint Helens disaster and gradual recovery? Even the volcano cone in the movie has a slight resemblance to it at the end. Beautifully animated, the 'Firebird Suite' soundtrack is clear as a bell, and they even follow the "going green again" theme: https://vimeo.com/366525790

The bulldozer with the tree growing through it is cool. :) I've seen other pics and vids like that too, cars, pickup trucks, dozers, even whole 18 wheelers that look like Godzilla picked them up and used them for a chew toy. Really gives you a perspective of the forces involved.

I've seen plenty of trees growing in cars too. Not that unique it would seem.

None. They have yet to find a guy who can tune a tree. :P
