2020 Fireworks Haul

Postby Mynock » Thu Jun 25, 2020 3:04 am

Getting ready for the glorious 4th.......picked up not one but two 60 gram 2" Canister kits, and assorted smaller ordnance. Time to entertain/show up the neighbors.

Winner of my "Best Bang For Your Buck" award this year, Phantom C-046 Barrage. This baby fires 84 shots in about 30 seconds, all with a very nice snappy report. It's like a Roman Candle machine gun!!!!!

I just recently found a sack of pyro goodies that was left over from duty at Camp MPV. We used them for critter dispersal before shooting at certain locations. Since we're not shooting this season I guess I'll have to put them to the intended purpose. BOOM!
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

I can't get any. I have a cat that, as soon as those things go off, will scramble into hiding like it's the end of the world or something.

I've been getting into aerial displays as a hobby since Pennsylvania legalized them a few years ago. This is the first year I'll be using a mortar rack and wiring up a whole display of my own vs just shooting them one by one out of the cheap tubes in the kit. Should be fun!

Be careful... There has to be a quicksand scene in this somewhere (lol)

I'm picturing a scene that starts out with a bunch of exploding fireworks sounds......followed by your model of choice covered in black soot staggering through the woods.....
"Ugh......damn defective fireworks......*cough*......too many fuses......*hack*......gonna....sue the pants......off that salesman......"
Cue plop/sink.

Seriously though yea, safety is number one priority with this stuff. I make it a point to never forget these are essentially small cannons I'm playing with, and they need to be treated with that level of respect. A fused rack will actually increase the safety factor, since I'll only have to light one fuse and step back, verses constantly reloading and firing the shells one by one!

Best I can manage is a half-brick of Black Cats I've had for the last decade. ;)

They don't even allow safe and sane fireworks here in the S.F. bay area anymore. Way too many structural fires from people throwing sparklers in the air and such. I miss the firework stands popping up every year. Glad I got to enjoy them as a kid and a teen before they were banned.

Last night was like WWIII.......for a few hours after sunset you couldn't look in any direction and not see a shell burst. It was cool but I hope people calm it down a little next year or it's going to lead to the ban on Aerials being put back into effect. Some guys in town are definitely not observing minimum safe distance rules for the stuff they're shooting off.

Agreed. Last night there were some idiots shooting off some rather impressive rockets, and they were aiming them in the direction of the building I am living in. Using some intervening electrical wires as a guide I would estimate the rockets travelled about 75 percent of the distance to my building before exploding. Those rockets were NOT being used in a safe, or even reasonably safe, manner. Fortunately it had rained a few hours earlier and was still drizzling a little.

Wait a minute! Didn't I just say fireworks were illegal in California> :?:

The skies over the Los Angeles basin as seen by a drone, July 4, 2020. I'm 60 years old and I have never seen anything like this in my life.
Greatest display I have ever seen: https://youtu.be/tIvdcdogC6k

Almost as exciting as when San Diego accidentally sent off 15 minutes worth of fireworks, over seven thousand shells in a matter of seconds:
