The Croods a New age.
The movie starts off with Guy's parents stuck in a tar pit; it's brief and in silhouette.

Plot opening: "A flashback shows the death of Guy's parents when he was a kid. As they drown in tar, they tell him to find somewhere called 'tomorrow'. He goes on a long journey and meets a young Belt before taking him along for the ride."
The movie looks entertaining (the first trailer made me laugh), but looks like "pit" scenes are a no-go in this one, short of the mentioned opening above. There's is a brief scene in trailer #2 with some orange goo that MAY bring something.....or not.
