I'm 39 And Playing With Legos :-)

Postby Mynock » Wed Mar 31, 2021 12:21 am

Got a call from the Old Man last Friday, told me he bought a Star Wars Lego kit at an estate sale. Apparently nobody was interested in Legos so it went incredibly cheap for what it was. I had heard of / looked at some of the really upscale Star Wars kits before but never realized they were this intricate. Fun way to spend a rainy weekend. :geek:

I remember constructing a Lego castle back when I was in middle school… Fun times.

Cool. I have Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder and a Clone Wars separatist tank. I saw there is a 1966 Batmobile available thru a Vietnamese dealer with Adam West and Cesar Romero mini figures.

It is interesting that you chose to post about Lego when you did, because coincidentally, here is an interesting news story that had just aired on Global TV March 30'th, about an Edmonton Alberta man who has turned Lego into a career:

^^Nice article. That's a job I wouldn't mind having. :)
He's right about sets going up in value. Older discontinued Lego sets, if they're factory sealed with the box in good condition, can go for thousands of dollars.
This one had a pretty dinged up box and had been opened so I didn't feel too bad about tearing into it. Wasn't particularly challenging but 1900+ pieces took time, took about 12 hours total.

I don't like LEGO anymore. The quality has degraded over the last years and the sets get more and more expensive. They also have an army of lawyers that aggressively fight against competitors.

As a small recommendation i introduce you to this Polish company that has gathered a lot of adult fans already and specializes on military sets:

I'm already chindeep in this mudbog and every desperate attempt to move my stuck legs only drives me deeper in. The thick mud slowly swamps my waders and my arms have nothing to hold onto.
I'm feeling home.

^^This is the first Lego set I've built in.....decades? So I can only speak from this one experience. I never got anything this big as a kid but the pieces seem to be the same quality as I remember. Most importantly there were no missing pieces. Instructions could've been a little clearer on some of the steps.
We're in agreement on price though. My bet is a big chunk of the price is Liscensing fees to Disney / Star Wars. Don't get me wrong this was fun but not $300 worth of fun.

That's pretty cool, I love what people can build out just simple bricks. I didn't grow up with Lego's myself, but my family got me a set of K'Nex that I spent a few days making a Rollercoaster using the instructions, I had a lot fun with them for years. I don't have them anymore but I did eventually build up a sizeable collection of Godzilla figures from the past few decades.

I happily still play with Lego and Mega Construx (formerly Bloks)...

That Slave 1 is an awesome kit, though it is one I haven't gotten. I did really enjoy building the Razor Crest, until canon said I had to throw it at the floor :p

But in the lighthearted nature of this post thanks to Mynock, I thought I'd share that even Lego, can be a delightful artform for the theme of our community:
