Reminder

Just a reminder that daylight savings time ends tonight. If you have clocks that do not change by themselves, turn them BACK one hour when you go to bed tonight.

Personally, I think the semi-annual clock change is a good time to do a few other things, such as changing batteries in smoke alarms and changing filters in AC systems. [I would be deceased now if it was not for smoke alarms.]

While we’re at it, brush your teeth, cause cavities don’t sleep.

Is this what’s left of the quicksand interest?

It was cool while it lasted I guess.

I agree, but that seems more appropriate for the “off-topic” section. Though it is important. I actually have a very upsetting story regarding smoke detectors, they are important.
As far as community... I’ve been around for over 20 years, and it really feels like the qs community is dying or fading. There really doesn’t seem to be much actual content left. It makes me sad.

You may, or may not, know that Studio 588, which is my home, suffered a very bad fire in late April of 2020. I was home, and asleep, when it started so I am certain I would be deceased if it were not for the smoke detectors.

I have a friend who lost his sister this spring in a fire.
Their insurance is refusing to help, claiming that they didn’t check the batteries in their smoke detectors.
That’s highly unlikely because he is the star cadet in a fire/rescue program. I find it impossible to believe that he’s lying about something like that. I think the insurance company and his family’s lawyer are all fucking scumbags who should rot in hell, no, burn in hell. That seems appropriate.

Sorry for your loss AT.

Smoke detectors are good. Smoke detectors AND fire extinguishers in EVERY room of your house are better. If you can get a minor fire under control in the first few seconds you might be able to stop it. You have to use best judgment on whether to fight or run but it's good to have the option.

Also, figured I'd throw up a separate thread on the other issues above to avoid confusion. Should be at the top of general discussion for the next 6 months or so.
