Delivery Mystery

Postby Mynock » Thu Feb 24, 2022 4:26 am

I got an email today at work from Amazon: "Your package has been delivered!"
Attached picture clearly shows the package sitting by the back door of my house.

I come home a few hours later, check the back door. No package. First thing I think is F@&king Porch Pirates!

Now in a horrible grumpy mood I stomp around the house to grab the mail. And there on my FRONT porch....is my package. It's clearly the same package as in the received photo.

My Amazon guy is an awesome dude, he always puts stuff on the back porch out of site as requested. Can't think of a single reason he'd move it after taking the pic.

Anybody else ever have this happen?

No but packages have been left in odd places, such as on the ground near the end of the old driveway. Every time there has been something like that it has turned out to be a substittue driver.

Mystery solved, after it happened again today. Box delivered / photo shows back porch / get home / box on front porch. Neighbor saw me come home and wandered over, turned out the wind blew both packages into the road and he rescued them like the awesome neighbor he is. I gotta get or make some kind of delivery box.

The solution to your situation was something I expected. I've intervened for friends and neighbors on several occasions when stuff was in the wrong place. The best time though was a small mountain of stuff got left on the porch of the rural Church I attend. The delivery address made no sense at all. After some detective work we figured out it must have been intended for the site of a new "tree hugger hostel" down the road. City people are paying to grow strawberries and look at farm animals. Anyhow, I loaded all of it up and left it on the back porch there. Several times now the Amazon guy can't figure out where something in the area belongs, he leaves it at the Church building. I've become the surrogate Amazon guy.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

Yesterday a substitute UPS driver backed into my driveway and came to the wrong front door (there are two) with a package I was not expecting. When I answer he asked if I was (some name that isn't mine). When I said no he asked if I knew who that person was. Again I said no. Then he looked at the address again. He had the right number but the wrong road.

Regarding all the major delivery services, I have found the drivers all to be friendly and wanting to be helpful, although some of the part time substitutes need more training. However, if a problem occurs, as it seems to do rather frequently, I have found the chat bot that pops up when you try to get help is absolutely worthless. I will adjust that. They are of no value to the customer and less than no value to the delivery company because they inevitably lead to hard feelings. And the people who answer when you ask for a real human being and just as bad. And so is their supervisor and that person's supervisor.
