Rest In Peace, Gilbert Gottfried
Gilbert Gottfried has died. He was 67 years old.
The actor and comedian's family announced the sad news on his official Twitter account Tuesday, alongside a photo of Gottfried.
"We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children," the family said.
"Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor. Love, the Gottfried family," they added.
Gottfried's longtime friend and publicist Glenn Schwartz tells PEOPLE in an official statement, "Beloved and iconic comedian Gilbert Gottfried passed away at 2:35 p.m. ET on April 12, 2022, from Recurrent Ventricular

Yea, this is sad indeed.
I wasn't a big fan - mostly because I wasn't exposed to him very much. But I knew who he was already (that voice!), when a friend of mine sent me a link of him roasting George Takei. I won't bother finding it right now. I don't really need to. It was unforgettable. I subsequently have seen footage of him roasting other celebs. The guy was special.

after 9/11 when it seemed difficult for comedians to say much of anything, Gilbert told a version of the Filthiest Joke in the World--- the Aristocrats
everyone present said it just broke the ice for being able to laugh again

This is saddening.
Like Dave, I was never really a fan but I always gravitated towards the likes of George Carlin, Bill Bailey and Sam Kinison BUT say what you want about the guy, he can roast anyone and I do mean anyone. I’m pretty sure even the Pope wasn’t safe. He just didn’t care and probably top among my memories is his late night show appearances with some comedy greats. It’s a sad loss.

His reading of extracts from 50 Shades of Gray was some of the funniest $hit I have ever had the pleasure to laugh at.

Let's not forget the infamous duck. Here's the first commercial. I love it when he kicks the piece of bread back at the guy who tossed it.:

Gilbert even appeared as himself in one of them:
