Quicksand Fans

I heard about that on the news earlier.
They say the entire Hawaiin Islands are volcanically built

^^The entire chain of islands was/is created by a geological "hot spot" where a magma plume from deep within the mantle comes up and burns a hole through the tectonic plate floating above it. The ensuing volcanic activity builds up one island after another as the plate moves over it.

It does have a limiting effect on quicksand development

One of the things I love about Google Earth is the mapped ocean bottoms. You can actually see ancient Hawaiian islands from dozens to hundreds of millions of years ago that no longed protrude above the ocean's surface. As the Pacific plate heads north-west the islands move off the hot spot and their volcanoes go dormant, the ocean and the weather eventually wearing them down. Someday all of the existing islands, which info says are only 1-to-5 million years old will also be submerged and an entirely new set of Hawaiian islands formed by volcanoes will sit on that same hot spot.

About Lōʻihi Hawaii

All of the Hawaiian Islands were formed by volcanoes that began from the ocean floor, with eruptions over millions of years growing each island up to and above the surface of the ocean. Eighteen miles southeast of the Big Island of Hawaii, there is a new island called Loihi forming, with lava erupting from its peak underwater and building it closer to the ocean surface. The top of Loihi is still 3000 feet underwater. It is estimated that it will take another 50,000 years for it to rise up and form dry land for a new Hawaiian island.
